Another week gone by already!

a Bonnie Hunter pattern
Well it is Sunday and that means it is true...wow time is sure flying! But I guess when you are busy and getting stuff done, the hours pass quickly. This baby quilt, one of many projects I am working on, is on its way to the new owner who will be born in a couple of months.
I spent yesterday transplanting seedlings to bigger pots. It is something that just has to be done and takes awhile to do. But I rewarded myself with an evening of hand quilting to relax. Now they can grow while I sew up a storm.
Today I am travelling with DH to deliver a boat and pick up some stuff for the garage(man stuff). I should have the afternoon to finish the hand quilting  and the evening to make binding and sew it to the quilt. I will be glad to have this quilt finished because it will mean I can start a new one!!! yea!!
I will be joining Kathy for some slow stitching on the binding once it is attached to the quilt. Hope you are enjoying your day and whatever stitching or sewing you may be doing!

The faster I go .....

Nothing like spending a weekend with your feet up, chatting away with a quilting buddy, hand quilting on a quilt and being introduced to the first season of Outlander. Ahhh that is the life...but all good things come to an end and the weekend ended and Monday dawned dreary and overcast. The perfect day to be sewing.

I am making a baby quilt that has to be done and ready to travel on Friday. So I am taking a page from Bonnie Hunter and doing a quick baby quilt that she did on quilt cam a couple of years ago. I have been watching old quilt cams while sewing and saw her doing this pattern, she calls it "dancing nine patch". This is as far as it is for now but hopefully I will be machine quilting on Thursday and putting the binding on it too. I found a perfect piece of fabric for the backing but will have to add a bit to make it big enough but that's okay more stash being used up. Timing is everything...I found the perfect fabric for the sashing and had just enough too. It is wonderful when a plan comes together.
It is "hump day" which means sewing this morning and knitting this afternoon. Extra bonus...guild tonight!!
I have also been watching the seedlings that I started. They are doing well and soon will have to be transplanted. No where ready to go outside as snow is in the forecast this week.

Have a great day everyone!

Returning robins and melting snow

an hour after this pic that pile on the rock in the center was gone
It sure feels like Spring now. The fragrance of dog poop is in the air!!! haha In the course of two days our creek has lost its ice pack covering and is flowing with Spring runoff. I am continuing on with finishing projects. But I have a couple new ones on the horizon....a baby quilt and a couple wedding quilts. I love making baby quilts especially when you know if it is a boy or girl.

Spending this weekend with a quilting buddy, visiting and doing some sewing. I am hoping to finish this hand quilting project and get some more stitches into this embroidery project. Here's to the weekend ahead!!

UFO's...New is old again or is it old is new again!!!

On my last post I was asking how you get started after finishing a large project. Well...I am back working on a quilt that I started in the summer. I just need to finish hand quilting the border and it will be done.
I have been helping my sister with a project. She is a beginner quilter and has basic sewing skills so I could give her instructions and a way she would go sewing. The quilt  just needs binding and it will be done. I will show pics later as it is a gift.
extra blocks to make a small quilt
So while she has been here sewing I have been looking for that new project. Going through my sewing room I have rearranged things and played on some of my new to me machines. The other night I was playing around on my treadle machine. I tried it before and wasn't very coordinated but I must say after 30 minutes...I got the hang of it. I would so love to piece a quilt on the treadle machine.
This week I have completed a quilt for a lady's family. I washed it to freshen it up and I added a dye catcher to the machine unfortunately one was not nearly enough! The solid burgandy of the border bled a lot. I washed the quilt a second time and the red faded but didn't disappear. Oh well it will have to remain. The worse part is the backing is cream muslin so it really shows. There were some leftover blocks that I am hoping to make into a top today. I have to make up 3 more blocks. I don't have all the exact fabrics so I will have to improvise a bit.
now they are toys with their own quilts

I also got these little gems finished with my sister's help. She needed practice machine quilting(she had never done it before) so these little ones were great. I have some teddy bears that need a little quilt of their own before they find a new home with some little child.(one of our charity groups at guild)
If there is still day left when this is all done....I have embroidery that can be worked on for slow stitching Sunday with my friend Kathy...but who am I kidding , if I get one thing done today I will be considered a good day!
The sun is shining and I think I hear a robin, could it be that Spring is really just around the corner!!

What's next?!?!

You have finished a large project and it is time to start a new one but which one will it be? Do you ever have that problem? It is not from lack of UFOs or projects that I would like to do, that is for sure. But what am I in the mood for? That is where I am right now. I have a quilt that needs some hand quilting but I save that for the evenings while I am sitting and watching netflix but during the day I want to be at a machine sewing. So today I will scour the project boxes I have(yes BOXES) and see what might speak to me and say they are ready to be made into a quilt!!!
I am finishing up the binding on this quilt and getting it ready to be washed so I can return it to the family of the lady who made it. You can read all about that story here . The quilt is all hand quilted and just needed the corners finished and the binding put on.
She really did a beautiful job
That is what I am up to today...what are you doing in your sewing world today?

Happy Easter Weekend and slow stitching day!

1 back seat, 2 dogs..they figured it out
Yes it is Easter and no we are only slightly closer to calling it Spring around here. The yard is still covered with snow although it is disappearing slowly. We spent the weekend with our daughter in her new home.DH and I loaded the two dogs in the car and away we went. It was my first visit but won't be my last...I keep telling her. An extra bonus is there is a quilt store and a knitting store within walking distance. I got to visit both this weekend and came home with a couple purchases.
While we were there DH was the handy man and I got to visit and sit and be spoiled. But all good things come to an end and we travelled home today.
feathers!!!!
So I have some time for some slow stitching with Kathy which is a good thing because last week I finished a couple small projects and they need binding. I am especially proud of the lap quilt as I did free motion quilting on it. Anyone who knows me or follows this blog knows I prefer hand quilting but will begrudgingly do machine quilting. Not only did I free motion  but I did feathers which turned out rather nice if I do say so myself. I spent one evening doodling on paper, practicing them and that really helped. The next morning I set up the machine and got right down to it. They went so well, I wanted to do the whole quilt in them but that wasn't going to work. The second project is a table center piece that was in the bag of goodies I bought the other week on my most lucky day(you can read about it here)!
I am not sure what this week holds in store but I have a few projects that I can get just a little closer to being finished and that is always a good thing!!! Enjoy the long weekend and hope the Easter bunny left you all good things!!

You just never know!

The other day a friend texted me and asked if I recognized the photo she sent me. It was a photo of a quilt, one that I had made last year ...
